Match reports
Finals
Congratulations to all teams for having an amazing tournament and especially to the winners of the One Nation Cup: the USA and Turkey!
The game reports follow! We are now on the market place in Bremen to celebrate the end of our football-festival! We hope you will join us!
Semi-Finals (4. Day)
Our chance will come - New Zealand takes it and will be in the finals
“We play with our hearts and that´s why we will win today!” Coach Mia is certain about it before the game. He has been working at the WYNERS football academy of Werder`s unforgettable Wynton Rufer for a long time. Today`s team has been practicing and playing together for almost six years, so the players know each other since they were little and celebrated a big success by winning the Oceania´s Nike-Cup two months ago, the many years of work are highly visible, for referee Tijan “New Zealand`s plays is noticeable stronger”. Nevertheless the Kiwis didn`t only succeed by turning their dominance into goals but also with their hasty passes with the influence of their South African secret weapon Liam who with a technical masterstroke he managed to put the Kiwis in to the lead. After that the team almost perfectly followed the advices coach Mia gave them at half time, he payed special attention to Bosnia`s number 10, Perovic but the Bosnian midfield-genius wasn´t completely fit, just as the husky center backs Frganja. Those were one of the main factors that caused the Bosnians to give the New Zealand team the lead and didn`t get back in the game after the first goal, even goal keeper Ivan Trifkovic, who was a good back support and kept the Bosnians in the game for a long time couldn`t change anything about that. By entering the finals the rugby-nation got a so-called big-point!
The Turkish triumphal procession keeps on going
“We were more willing, we wanted to win” is the conclusion of coach Sezgin from Izmir, with this evaluation he was absolutely right! From the beginning the Turkish team was burning and browbeat Werder´s defense from the beginning. Only after 8 minutes the Germans were trailing by 2-0 the goals once again being prepared by Turkey`s number 6. With an artistic flying header Mustafa cleared a dangerous Werder-offense and went to half time 2-0 to their advantage.
The German team “didn`t get beyond their good attemps” Germany’s number 10 Ole Käupecomcludes self-criticism with him the team could have risen again, but since they didn`t rise to the occasion Turkey got a deserved 4-0 with goals scored by Erdal, Ugur, Adnan and Adem.
By now, Süheda from the twin school Gymnasium am MarktAchim has been getting to know Ümit, Mustafa and Sefa from the Turkish team, with “Türkiye, Türkiye!!! ” the twin school cheered for the Turkish team. Süheda is a volleyball player and loves this sport: “But football is also great!” she resumes. The assistant coach congratulated the winning team on behalf of the Werder –team – respect!
The Mississippi Express is unstoppable
The American players basically took the whole morning to watch the other boy´s game, they must have been especially impressed by team Turkey pressing forward. The game was centered almost exclusively in the English half, in the ninth minute the favorites already took the lead after a sitter by Alex Thomas. To play it safe she scores a second goal just three minutes later. According toRalf Jung the American girls` scoring power is the tournament`s only safety risk “It`s incredible how quickly they score! “ The 3-0 goal by Eleanor is a real dream goal – so far the most beautiful goal in the girls` competition. Collette and Blake, American parents, think that the amazing team-work was decisive today. “The One Nation Cup programme on the field and beside it is just wonderfull, our twin school organized a city tour, that way we discovered Bremen and also went went to the Klimahaus. The highlight for our girls was the party in the Sportgarten with barbecue, music and playing football with the South African boys for three hours! On the way back the girls played“call and response“a song by Justin Bieber. The German team in the back of the bus started and the American team responded from the front strong-voiced.“ The bus driver didn´t lose orientation and of course they kept going until the Hotel Galopprennbahn!
Lowlands beats highlands – team Netherlands fights for a 1-0 against team Switzerland
After the exciting semi-final Kgra was still stunned: “We hoped and only hoped that we had done everything for it.Aber het ginggoed!” in spite of that or maybe because of the fact that the Dutch spent the morning at their twin school in Oldenburg. Team Switzerland on the other hand chose to stay in the hotel to concentrate on getting ready for the game. They went into the semi-final being sure “Mir, das Schwyzer Dorf, gewinnen den Pokal (We, the SwyzerDorf, are going to win the tournament)”. The coach`s advice was to play calm and tire out the Dutch by long running distances, camera men was told “You can come back later!” From the beginning, the young Dutch laid the game into the midfield and the half of the Swiss in order to stop the Swiss offensive game that way the Swiss playmaking ended up most of the time in the out, maybe it was Star-Coach Marieka, who formed the Dutch way of playing. “She was a few years in America and she never disappointed us” Kgra and Anne confirmed. They have a vision together with their girls: We will climb a mountain and on top of the mountain there is a fence, where is written: “We will be the champions!” To realize that dream Siena scores from 18 meters an amazing goal after 10 minutes had been played even the very good goalkeeper Ackermann from Team Switzerland could only steer the ball to the post from where the ball rolled behind the goal line. Big compliment to both twin schools – the Fintauschule and the Herbartgymnasium – for great support! As a result Anne and Kgra can still dream – “we still hope!”
3. Day
Chinese ball work makes New Zealand feel nervous – but only for one half!
Referee Bilal complimented the Chinese players on their great defense during the first half: “The offside trap ran perfectly!” Primary after the break, New Zealand’s Stuart Holthusen was able to outplay the Chinese and to score the redemptory 1-0 for the Kiwis.
Thereafter New Zealand used their chances to a well-deserved 5-0, in which Nick Sugden became the ‘man of the match’.
Hong Wang the Scout for the Chinese team saw the Chinese participation in the One Nation Cup as a great success: “All the Chinese players grow up in 1-child-families. These experiences will join them their whole life and they get to know what team-building is!”
Turkish Goalkeeper Göktug Bakurbos keeps on having a clean record
In cases of having a player like Mustafa Kara, who is the head of the Turkish team, your opponent will have no chance. In their third match in a row Turkey no goals were scored and reached the semi-final sovereignly by having a great goal difference of 8-0.
The resistance of the Polish team only held until the eighth minute. The scorers Erdal (2), Sefa, Adim and Ümit made Turkey win by 5-0. Referee Tijan noticed the physical and playful predominance of the Turks meanwhile Poland – Scout Sarah believed: “that Poland was clearly the better team in the second half!”
Swiss always come back
Both teams showed an intensive, exciting game in the Centre Court. Bosnia-Herzegovina gained the lead through Melissa, the Swiss then equalized a few minutes later, Melissa again took the initiative to give Bosnia to a 2-1 lead. The Swiss Coach tried to cheer her girls up during the break: “Go out and don’t be scared!” Only 4 minutes later Team Switzerland scores from an amazing long distance shot. Team Bosnia could not recover and in the end the Swiss won with 4-2, It was still not clear if Bosnia will reach the semi-finals because that dependesd on the results of the upcoming match between England and Israel. Nadja from Bosnia’s twin school KGS Stuhr/Brinkum: “has no time to play soccer and my club only supports boys’ soccer!” will try to prop the team up and maybe have an ice-cream in Sportgarten.
Duel with giants
From the Japanese’ point of view there was no way to get over the Netherland defense. The center backs have the perfect size à la Mertesacker & Naldo (center backs of Werder Bremen) and so they were able to defend all the high and long balls.
The early goal of top-striker Siena made the team of Coach Kazuhisa Umezaka feel nervous: “My girls had the absolute will to win, but started to get brave only in the second half however they nearly equalized. I have to compliment on my players for that fantastic match and believe that they will get braver from this international exchange.
African drama - One goal is missing
In a game of different tactics, fast combinations of South Africa against intransigent fore checking of Bosnia-Herzegovina, South Africa gained the lead from a wonderful individual performance of Mthembu, from then on the game got very intensive, in which the fans gave everything to support their teams. “Bosnia, Bosnia!” and “Africa, Africa!” it clanged from everywhere, only ten minutes were left when Bosnia-Herzegovina equalized after a corner. In spite of hectic offense from the young South Africans Bosnia was able to protect that draw and as a result reached the semi-final of the One Nation Cup. The rainbow-nation that probably played the best combination-soccer was out because of the one goal that was missing!
Latvia down
Lukas Ciosanski player for Werder Bremen U15 believed that his team: “finally is in the tournament, my team played good balls and ran a lot!” It seemed so to the idol of Werder’s U14 and the U17. Last night they reached the final for winning the German championship by winning against Stuttgart, but also the party yesterday in the “Klimahaus” in Bremerhaven pushed the guys. The players were able to take the rhythm and power from the dance floor to the soccer field, it would have been better if Riga had joined them dancing. The scorers for Germany were Pedro, Tofee, Majo, Lars (2) and for Latvia Verners.
Decision at least 6 minutes till end - Tough game for England even though the won 8-0
Team Israel earned endless support from Team Bosnia because England could only reach the semi-final if they won by a goal difference of 8 goals. England led 2-0 even though they played uninspired and passive football in the first half, so Team Bosnia could still dream of reaching the semi-final. Coach Howard told his girls to stay patient and not to forget to score. “Find the gaps in their defense and get creative! They will get tired – we can still do it!” he was pushing his girls. The time ran against England and Team Israel especially knew how to throw it away very slowly, meanwhile Scout Konrad quarreled with the use of their chances, his team gathered momentum and reached the semi-final through winning 8-0.
Tight 2-1 win for USA against Germany
An interesting game in which both teams played good soccer but Team Germany wasn’t able to create chances. Through the goals from Alex and Madison Team USA seemed to win that game easily. However the young German team scored they consolation goal to make it 2-1 by Nina Lührßen in the injury time but they were not able to equalize anymore.
2. Day
Germany's back in the tournament
The Werder-Team was already 2:0 ahead against the Chinese at half time and clearly dominated the game, for Marco Bode it was obvious: “Werder wants to catch up today!’’ Especially convincing for him was Wilko Bruns, who didn’t only score two goals at 1:0 and 3:0 but also stood out with an enormous performance, so in tomorrow’s game against Latvia, Germany has the opportunity to move forward in the tournament.
Mustafa Kara leads Turkey into the semi-final
The young midfielder was convincing with good ball control and excellent passes again today. This way he led his team into the semi-finals on Friday. Adnan shot them up to a 1:0 lead and only two minutes later after that Mustafa scored they second goal from a twenty meter distance.
Nippon and its fans win 1-0
To Veronika and Yoshua pupils of the twin school Hamburger Straße, Japan’s number 15 – Kayo Yamamoro is a champ but Airi Kawakura also impressed them a lot. One wonders if the strawberry cake that the Japanese team was served in the school had anything to do with their good performance, when it to running Japan was much stronger than the Germans. Thomas Wolter actually came here with his daughter, who’s a passionate handball player to get her into playing football. The golden goal was shot by Yuuki Takahashi at the beginning of the game.
Swiss precision work
The team from Northwest-Switzerland was once again very convincing. The England’s Scout Konrad “the Swiss just played better together my team could only score if they made stupid mistakes” from the English team player number 8 – Sophie especially attracted attention. Sophie’s way of playing reminds many people of Wayne Rooney, goalkeeper Laura Taylor and her excellent performance kept the English team in the game for a long time but against Sarah Meier’s fantastic free kick from a 20 meter distance into the upper right corner she was powerless.
0-0 between Latvia and New Zealand
Both teams concentrated their play largely on the midfield, so there weren’t a lot of goal scenes but the teams were convinced until the end of the game that they could win it. Jana’s (Team Latvia’s Scout) nerves were on the edge nevertheless she stated: „Latvia Uzwara“ – Latvia is going to win. For Gatis New Zealand’s style of play is a new experience: “The team is technically strong and covers the rooms really well he hopes for Latvia against South Africa in the final. Mia laments that “my team didn’t get into the rhythm and let few chances that came up pass.”
Is a world record enough? South Africa wins 5-0
Usually it takes a South African team eight shots to make one goal, in as for today’s five goals came an unbelievable feeling of success, even though the Polish team never gave up and that way anticipated the 6-0, which would have taken the South Africans way into the semi finals, nevertheless the success of a win. The impressive combination play that they showed yesterday yet again proved to be the key to success. For tomorrow’s game Vusi Mazibuko is going to make use of the experiences he gained today and profit from what he learned in the workshop Coerver Coaching.
Learning from American football -3-1 in the match against the Dutch
Joana from New Orleans didn’t have any specific expectations for this morning: „We hoped, prayed and didn’t expect anything because the Dutch team is very strong but the American team is even stronger! This is why it doesn’t matter to Tobias from the Wlhelm-Olbers-School “against whom ever our team will be playing we’re going to win anyways” Until today Tobias wasn’t interested in girl’s football, that’s going to change with this tournament. In any cases, the team from New Orleans is leaving a great impression and is making lots of friends, for the Netherlands it’s all or nothing in the game against Japan tomorrow.
Team Israel tips the scales
Bosnia-Herzegovina had 12 goals on their agenda today, the team wanted to be on the absolute safe side before their essential game against Switzerland. The clear 8:1 also left the door open for England to enter the semi-final. Referee assistant Jakob Murr thought of the result as being richly deserved and attestes the Israeli a great fighting spirit “because the team didn’t give up at no point“. Amna Sina Babu scored the consolation goal and according to Coach Shahar she is now nominated for the Hapoel Tel Aviv selection. “We would have won with another referee!“, he jokes. “No, he has really supported us!“ In the team from Bosna-Herzegovina the triple scorer Angela stood out once again. Captain Selma Kapetanovic played an excellent game and set up the goals of Sarah (3), Melissa and Mirha (both 1).
1. Day
Turkey wins with a last-minute goal by Mustafa
For a long time South Africa showed a brilliant fast passing game, but they weren’t able to create chances. Defender Banele from Team South Africa had a great day. Team Turkey who often tried to operate with long balls had no success! However Mustafa scored with an amazing volley in the last second of the match.
Latvia wins impressively with 6-0 against China
Latvia is now considered as favorites for winning the One Nation Cup 2011! Through intensive power play Team China had no chance to show their offensive skills, so it was a very one-sided match.
USA ekes out a 1-0 over Japan
Coach Louie from New Orleans can see two teams that play on the same technical level. “My girls were physically better, but we let 4 or 5 good chances out!” Maddle scored from her second great chance which decided the 1-0. Confidently she announced: “the goalkeeper could not see the ball!”
"Mountain-high" success for Team Switzerland
To win the cup is the wish of the twin school Fintauschule Lauenbrück - and their team Switzerland showed that they really want to achieve this wish. During the whole match Israel had absolutely no chance, so it was no surprise that the game ended with 10-0. Anyhow, Coach Willy Schmidt criticized: “we didn’t transmute our predominance into goals. Instead of fluent passing we mostly tried to score on our own!” In that coherence he commended the defenders from Israel. However, the total game time was only 70% of the regular time – the rest was explaining the soccer rules!
New Zealand defeated Germany by 4-1
The first half was dominated by Germany and as a result they scored the first goal which didnt change till half time. Coach Mia found the right words because the Kiwis stepped up their game in the second half, they got a penalty and converted it confidently, which gave them new power and will to play freely. The 12-year old forward Liam scored twice from free kicks and later Steward accomplished a solo attempt that meant New Zealand won 4-1 and got the 3 points.
6-0 walkover for Team Bosnia-Herzegovina
The young players from Sarajewo were wide awake on the field, even with a 20-hour bus trip to Bremen. Mainly the scorers Stojanovic (3), Dursun (2) and Frganja were top-fit! Anyhow the very young team from Poland didn’t hang their heads – most of them are two years younger than their opponents.
Scarcely 1-0 success for Team Netherlands against Team Germany
It was barely 5 minutes of the match Netherlands scored the deciding goal from Siena. Referee Thomas Hein saw a very interesting game in which Germany got better and better during the time unfortunately they weren’t able to equalize as Team Groningen defend their lead well.
A fair 2-2 between England and Bosnia-Herzegovina
A lot of input and passion led to a 2-2 draw. It was a very fair game for referee Fritz Jacobs: “Just as we wanted to see!” Andela from Team Bosnia scored first to make it 1-0, but Sophie equalized because the goalkeeper of Bosnia miscalculated her timing. England went on with playing offensive football and gained the lead through Ainee, however Andela scored again and saved a draw for her team. We hope to see more of that kind of matches during the tournament. Coach Howard was very confident: “because my team didn’t give up we came back to the game!”
